| Loyalist Stamp Issue and Cancellation Monday May 5th Shelburne Post Office for the rest of 2008 all mail will go out with our own Cancellation. Stamp collectors and souvenir hunters alike will be very interested in a number of stamp products being introduced by the Loyalist Landing 2008 Society, in consultation with local collectors and the Shelburne Post Office. These will be available as of May 5th and will be a colourful reminder of the 225th anniversary of the Loyalist landing in 1783. The Loyalist Landing 2008 Society invites you to join Post Mistress Susan Nash and staff at a reception to launch the new stamp products at the Post Office on May 5th from 10 am to 1 pm. The regional manager for Canada Post and Society members will also be on hand to cut the cake. Guests are encouraged to dress Loyalist style for the occasion! |

| Special Loyalist Museum Displays The Shelburne Museum Complex (the Dory Shop Museum, the Muir-Cox Shipyard and the Ross-Thomson House & Store Museum) will feature special displays throughout the summer months highlighting the Loyalists and the early days of Shelburne. The Museum is located at 8 Maiden Lane in the historic district and is open from 1st June to 15th October, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. | Let's Give Cancer The Boot! Fashion Show Poster Here Tuesday, July 8, 2 pm, Osprey Arts Centre Many of the fashions that will be featured in the show, including everything from comfy jeans to glitzy little numbers, will be provided and modelled by cancer survivors. Adivas Place, a recent addition to the Shelburne retail landscape, will also provide some of the latest fashions from its boutique. Anyone with a favourite special dress or outfit is invited to model it at the show in memory of a loved one. If a dress is not available, a prize donation in memory of someone who lost their battle with cancer or to celebrate someone who is now cancer free is welcome. There is no admission charge, but donations will be gratefully accepted at the door with all proceeds going to the Yarmouth Hospital Oncology Unit and the Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund. Yarmouth Hospital fundraisers will also be at the show selling raffle tickets on a hooked floor mat with a striking fish design that is valued at $1,000. The Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund is a local program that provides financial assistance to cancer patients and their families in the Municipality of Barrington and Cape Sable Island. | Horse and Carriage Tours Enjoy a guided tour of Shelburne’s historic district as you amble along in a period horse-drawn carriage. Mark Henneberry and Sam will be your hosts. Tours will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 2-4 pm, starting at the Visitor Information Centre on Dock Street, along the historic Dock Street area, up George Street, along Water Street and returning to the Visitor Information Centre. The carriage holds six passengers and each tour will vary between 45 to 60 minutes. Tours are $15 per person. When the horse & carriage tours are not running, interpreter Logan Harris will also provide a walking tour of the historic district. Walking tours are $5 per person. Tickets for both tours are available at the Visitor Information Centre, Dock Street, 875-4547. Prince of Wales Historic Dancers Shelburne's own troupe of historic dancers will entertain with 18th Century dance throughout the summer. Loyalist Gatherings - Tea and Displays Every Thursday throughout July and August 2008, 2-4 pm, Shelburne County Archives & Genealogical Society, Water Street, Shelburne. Weekly teas and family displays featuring Loyalist families. Refreshment recipes from Loyalist Foods in Today’s Recipes, a social historical cookbook written by local author Eleanor Robertson Smith, will be served by hosts and hostesses in period dress depicting Loyalist ancestors. This will be an interactive afternoon where visitors can learn about life in the late 18th century and also discover family roots. | AMISTAD Weekend The Freedom Schooner Amistad will be visiting Nova Scotia as part of the celebration of the 225th anniversary of the arrival of the Black Loyalists in our province to establish the first and largest free Black community in Nova Scotia. The ship will be berthed at the Shelburne Marine Terminal and will take part in a variety of events as part of the Loyalist Landing celebrations.
